ThinAir is a seamless and transparent technology that gives you complete visibility, context, and control over your #1 corporate asset: the data itself. Stop insiders, human error, and automated data exfiltration today.

    Y Combinator Winter '15.

The Company:

We're a small team of dedicated engineers and security folks revolutionizing how data security works by treating data as a first-tier asset, and using telemetry analysis to find anomalies in user behavior. Y-Combinator Winter '15 with a good number of angel investors (https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/thinair).

Our CEO is a engineer-founder who started his career building the fraud detection systems at MasterCard, then left to found the popular "infinite" storage company BitCasa. We try to combine the security of the former with the simplicity of the later.

The Team:

Our backend team is a world-class group of operators and engineers from Palantir, Google, Zenefits, Twitch, and Booz Allen.

We take security and stability very seriously, adhering to the mantras of "Premature optimization is the root of all evil", "Secure by default", and "Gather metrics on all the things".

If you understand your stack fully, little things never become big things.

The Role:

As a Senior Engineer, you'll be architecting and implementing performant systems as well as coordinating with our operations team to ensure that they run smoothly. You'll collaborate with engineering, product and other business stakeholders to scope and design products correctly. You'll perform code reviews, mentor other engineers and contribute to a robust learning culture. You'll be proactive, curious and accessible.

The Stack:

The backend infrastructure is a Python / Django-based stack that uses Celery to scale up asynchronous processing, Redis for caching (amongst other redis-y things), and Postgres for storing/retrieving data. It's vitally important that the stack is stable and highly availible at any given point since all roads lead to us!

The Skillset:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong (3+ years) experience with Python or other similar high-level language
  • Strong (3+ years) experience with PostgreSQL or other RDBMS
  • Experience (1+ years) with full-stack web development (Django experience a plus)
  • Unit-testing know-how required, experience with TDD or BDD a plus
  • Efficient, clever, practical programmer with a record of producing dependable and extensible code
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field (CS/Math/Stats/Engineering)

Bonus Points:

  • Experience building metrics/telemetry collection platforms
  • Experience building security tooling
  • Experience building data pipelines with technologies like Kafka, DataBus or Storm
  • Experience with deploying code and AWS
  • Experience building feature extraction systems for machine learning
  • Deep familiarity with the sorts of vulnerabilities that plague the web (XSS/CSRF/SQL injection/etc), as well as their mitigations and ways to defensively code around them.
